Turmoil

Creative Director & Technical Designer

Turmoil is a third-person rogue-like game made by KiwiClockWork.

In this project I collaborate with all members of the team in order to create a cohesive environment with all members of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure everyone knew what the current goal was and ensured that everyone was able to voice their feedback on the current direction of development

  • During development, give actionable feedback that was implemented to improve the experience of the player

  • Created, UV’d, and textured 50+ models including modular pieces as well as providing assistance in 90+ models including rigging 2 character models

  • Provided assistance in the creation of world generation, interaction system and player camera movement

Main Lessons learned

  • Documentation is very important. Making sure that everyone has a good understanding of what the goals are is very important so that work being done goes mainly to completing milestones to decrease delays.

  • Meetings with team leads are very important so that everyone knows the current state of game development without needing to have full knowledge of every aspect.

  • Decisions for how a system is going to created need to be done carefully because recreating a system is time consuming, although sometimes it is necessary as new information is learned and can save time in the future.

Camera Switch System

Interaction System

This interaction system can be used in multiple occasions from triggering doors to open to being part of objectives that spawn in items or cause other environment factors to change.

This camera switch system serves the main purpose of making combat more engaging allowing the player to continue fighting enemies while tactically falling back.
